African documentary Film?

this is a response to a question posted by wachanga on the untrtvf4415.blogspot.com site.

this is a hard question to answer, because i'm not some elite film scholar, and i really like to watch romantic comedies more than documentaries, but i think that the question brings up some really good points to think about. i mean, this whole thing about language, it's not something that we really need to address when thinking about making documentaries in america, but in africa, it becomes an issue due to the fact that if you make the film in a native language, you might have a more limited release than if you put an english track on it and release it in the usa. does this english track make the movie "non-african"? i don't know, i don't proclaim to know the correct answer, but in my opinion, if you make a documentary about africa, regardless of the language it is in or who produced it, it's an african documentary. i could be wrong though. i honestly only watch movies that are meant for 13 year old girls to watch. so that kind of clears out any credibility i could have.

on a completely unrelated note, i saw cloverfield, and i enjoyed it.

yours in cross,

steve
